Florida Teens Read

Teens in Florida read and Florida media specialists know it! Florida Teens Read is a list of 15 titles that have been chosen by a committee of thirteen media specialists specifically to engage high school students (grades 9 through 12) in reading and reflect their interests as well as represent a variety of genres, formats, reading levels, viewpoints, and ethnic and cultural perspectives.Teens are encouraged to read at least three of the titles on the current list.

From April 1 to April 30 each year a link will be available on the FAME web page for students to vote for their favorite book. The winner will be posted on the winners' page in early May.
Please feel free to edit the materials found under Resources to reflect your school.

Florida Teens Read Committee

The Florida Teens Read Committee reads and selects 10-15 books for the Florida Teens Read Finalists List.  Committee members are responsible for promoting the FTR program across Florida, presenting the award and holding sessions at FAME Annual Conference.  The committee meets once at annual conference and once in March/April.  The committee is updated at the spring board meeting.

This program is designed to entice teens to read. In order to engage their interest and to provide a spur to critical thinking, the book selections include those that involve sensitive issues. The content of some of the titles may be more mature than younger students may have previously encountered. Please recognize that this is a voluntary reading program. Not every book selected will suit every student. In a democratic society, a variety of ideas must find voice. As readers, teens have the choice to read the more mature titles or to close the book.
